Strength Exercises

Strength Exercise is a non-aerobic program at the Slusser Center designed for seniors to strengthen bones and improve balance, thereby helping seniors to maintain their independence. Included in the program are exercise routines using ankle weights and hand weights, as well as stretching and balance exercises. Increasing weight adds to the intensity of the program. Participants are encouraged to increase ankle and hand weights gradually or whenever they feel it is possible. Seniors age 50+ of all ability levels are welcome. There is no set fee for this program, but donations are accepted.

Any senior age 50+ who wants to join the Strength Exercise Classes, please come and speak with the instructor, Gloria Symonds, on a Tuesday or Thursday just before 9:00 am.

Strength & Balance

Mon & Wed 3-4 pm

The Strength and Balance Exercise Class meets every Monday and Wednesday from 3:00-4:00 pm at the Slusser Center. The class provides weight training, stretching, and balance exercises which will provide a foundation for increased quality of life for our seniors and a place to be encouraged to become stronger individuals.

The program is based on the former Strong Living program developed by Tufts University. The program consists of a series of lower body, core, and upper body exercises. The leader monitors the form of the participants and provides correction if necessary. Each participant determines the amount of weight lifted and is encouraged by the leader to increase weights within his or her ability.
